Butterfly Beach Hotel Barbados

Overview of Butterfly Beach

Among the highlights of a holiday in Barbados is a night at Oistins’ famous Friday Fish Fry.  Which is why the Butterfly Beach Hotel Barbados, on the island’s popular South Coast, is an ideal setting for those who want to be a short stroll from the action.

And there’s more!  Butterfly Beach is a short drive from the nightlife at St Lawrence Gap. “The Gap” as the locals know it, is a street of contrasts. You will find young and old walking shoulder to shoulder, expensive condos alongside simple guesthouses, and every business you can think of plying their trade. There are restaurants and cafes for daytime visitors. And bars and clubs for those who prefer the nightlife.

But, for those who want the quiet life and a relaxing holiday, the Butterfly Beach Hotel sits on two wonderful white-sand beaches. Bordered by the shimmering blue waters of the Caribbean.

As tempting as the Caribbean may be, you can practise your breaststroke in the freshwater swimming pools or soak in the waterfront whirlpools on the raised patio.

But the stunning sea views steal the show from the new seaside deck at The Reef Bar & Grill. How does pan-fried Banjan flying fish for lunch sound against the backdrop of the Caribbean?

Add weekly rum punch parties and BBQs to the sound of the steel pan band and the Butterfly Beach Hotel all-inclusive is a great value for money. Small wonder that it has a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award.

Butterfly Beach Awards

Butterfly Beach Hotel continues to improve its overall sustainability performance and received Green Globe certification in acknowledgement of its commitment.

Anne-Marie Kent, Assistant Hotel Manager at Butterfly Beach Hotel said, “We are thrilled that Green Globe awarded us Certification. This is a step in the right direction on our path to running a sustainable hotel.

Our team works hard daily to make sure our guests are comfortable. The team look forward to improving more next year.”

Butterfly Beach Hotel’s Sustainability Management Plan focuses on conserving energy and water usage and reducing waste. The Plan improves energy efficiency through LED lighting and inverter air-conditioning units.

We have reduced energy consumption by limiting lighting during the early hours of the morning when most of the hotel is quiet.

As a green hotel, we use segregated sorting bins in guest rooms. this encourages guests to recycle plastic containers and glass bottles. In restaurants, we offer plastic cups and straws when requested.

We encourage guests to re-use towels and buy local products. And, the hotel prefers to use local businesses and green suppliers to contribute to the local economy.

“We are proud of our in-room recycling program. We use local and regional products throughout the property, including Earthworks (Local Pottery), who create our vases, and signboards. We display local artists’ work in the lobby,” added Anne-Marie Kent.

As part of their corporate and social responsibility, it involves hotel associates in initiatives that use their knowledge within the wider community.

The Guest Notice Board, known as the Green Notice Board, provides information on activities, local history and wildlife.

The board features the hotel’s Environmental Policy. It includes important information on buying souvenirs. It is illegal to buy coral. Removing coral from its natural environment threatens the local eco-system.

“We look forward to working with Green Globe for many years to come,” concluded Anne-Marie Kent.

Perfect base for our week in Barbados

GeorgeJWM Edinburgh, United Kingdom 4 Dec 2019

“We stayed here for a week and loved everything about the place. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the centre of Oistins. We had a side pool-facing room with a large balcony and we could also see the sea, which was a bonus.”

“The room was very comfortable, spacious and clean, with a handy equipped kitchenette consisting of a large fridge, hob and microwave. The bathroom, although simple, was also clean and functional. The bed was extremely comfortable and the air-conditioning and ceiling fan worked well, which is important.”

Great ambiance

CosCos M wrote a review 2 Dec

“Got here on a Monday night it was buffet the food was amaze and there service from the front desk to the restaurant exceeded my expectation. Katrina from the front desk was amazing also Jerome had the best advice on drinks. All in all had a great time would definitely be back.

Richard M wrote a review 7 Dec

Chesterfield, England, United Kingdom

“The hotel was clean, and the on-site restaurant was great, serving Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The room had a safe, (which was free) we were on the second floor, overlooking the long thin pool (Adults only).
My wife and I went to the Friday night fish fry at Oistins, we ate at Pat's place, which was as good as I had heard.”

Things to do in Barbados

St. Lawrence Gap

As mentioned before, Butterfly Beach is a short drive from the nightlife at St Lawrence Gap. “The Gap” is well worth a visit. There is much diversity here. Young and old, residents and visitors walk side by side.

There are churches opposite tequila bars, and expensive apartments alongside budget hotels. So, you can have a Mexican lunch or a Bajan dinner. Enjoy a coffee, or dance the night away. You can swim or sit and watch the sunset.

Street vendors ply their trade so browse the stalls and small shops then stop for refreshing coconut water served in the shell.

These are restaurants near Butterfly Beach Hotel Barbados.

Oistins Friday Fish Fry

The small fishing town of Oistins comes alive every Friday night. Visitors and residents from around the island come together for a great street party.

Because on Friday night Oistin hosts the famous fish fry at the Bay Gardens. The fabulous food is the main attraction. This is a different experience than that of your local “chippy.” Have you tried Mahi-mahi or flying fish?

Then there is marlin, swordfish and tuna to tempt your appetite. Not a fish person? The lobster or chicken may suit you. Get it fried or grilled and cooked while you wait.

Wash it down with local beer in an informal setting. Meet local people and join in a game of dominoes or sit and watch others as they dance in the street to current calypso or Jamaican ska. There may be songs you remember from Bob Marley or Jimmy Cliff.

There are street stalls selling local crafts which comprise, jewellery, leather craft and original paintings. You may find good souvenirs.

South Coast Boardwalk

The South Coast Boardwalk Barbados stretches 1.6 km between Camelot and the famous Accra beach. A stroll along this famous mile will give you a sense of history while breathing in the salt air. There are restaurants, bars and beaches. And benches to sit and watch the world go by.

Bridgetown

A drive of 10K (6 miles) along the Errol Barrow Highway takes you to the port city of Bridgetown, the capital city of Barbados. Here you can explore British colonial architecture or the island’s Jewish history at the Nidhe Israel Synagogue.

Bridgetown sits on the curve of Carlisle Bay where you can scuba dive or snorkel. You can search the man-made shipwrecks, sunk to encourage marine life. Or you can eat your lunch or swim from Brown’s Beach or stop by the Harbour Lights Beach Bar and Grill.
