The history, the culture, the music, Stretched\nout along the marshlands of Trelawny, the freshwater of the Martha Brae River<\/strong> meets the salt water\nof the Caribbean.<\/strong> Here lies the Luminous Lagoon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This\nshallow warm water lagoon is the perfect habitat for tiny (harmless) microorganisms,\ncalled dinoflagellates, to flourish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n These\nmillions of microorganisms emit an eerie blue-green\nlight<\/strong>. So, it\u2019s best to view them in all their splendour, at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Book the moonlight cruise which includes enough time to swim in the lagoon. Wear white for maximum effect. You may need a special lens on your camera in order to capture this phenomenon. But this once in a lifetime experience is worth the effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Falmouth\n(Trelawny) is 17 miles from Montego Bay. Tour operators also make collections\nfrom Ocho Rios and Negril. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Boats\ndepart every night from the Glistening\nWaters Marina<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Drive a few miles south of Brown\u2019s Town in the parish of Saint Ann, through rugged, winding roads. And enjoy the verdant, red-clay of Dry Harbour Mountains, until you discover the small village of Nine Mile<\/strong>. This is the birthplace<\/strong> and resting place of the great reggae singer, Bob Marley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For worldwide fans, this is a place of pilgrimage. For intrepid travellers and all-inclusive tourists, this is a \u201cmust visit\u201d<\/strong> destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bob Marley,\nmusician and peace activist, was born here in February 1945 and laid to rest in\nMay 1981.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What will you find at Nine Mile? The two-roomed house in which Bob was born. A humble dwelling with a gathering room and a small bedroom. The kitchen was outside. There are two mausoleums on the property. The first, houses the remains a Cedella Marley<\/strong> (Bob\u2019s mother), and the second, the remains of Marley himself. They do not allow photography in either building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are other\nartifacts that reflect Bob Marley. For example, his Rasta-coloured rock pillow\nwhere he would meditate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The peak of the Blue Mountains<\/strong> is 7400 feet (2256\nmetres). It must be one of the great Jamaica\nlandmarks<\/strong>. The summit is accessible via a walking track. There are\nsensational views of the north and south coasts of Jamaica from the summit. And\nyou can see Cuba on a clear day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They set much of\nthe Blue Mountain range within the Blue and John Crow National Park<\/strong> (a UNESCO\nWorld Heritage Site). For enthusiastic hikers,\nthere are collection points around Kingston. You can take the 4-wheel drive and\nstart at Abbey Green, 5000 feet (1520 metres). And you ascend along Jacob\u2019s\nLadder, a steep, winding path that takes you to the peak. The distance from\nAbbey Green to the Peak is just under 6 miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Along the way look out for unique bird life. You may observe the doctor bird (the national bird of Jamaica), the Chesnut bellied cuckoo, crested quail dove and the rufous-throated solitaire.
